Does the World Really Need Another Blog?

Why am I starting a blog in 2025? Isn’t the internet already bursting at the seams with opinions, advice, and aesthetic flat lays? Most definitely. And yet—here I am, adding another voice. Because… why not?

The YouTubers and podcasters all say it’s okay if you bring your own perspective and “niche down.” So here I am, planting my creative flag in this little corner of the internet. Check back in two years when I’ve either become a cult favorite—or dramatically ghosted the blogosphere. (👀 <Link to future post here>)

Why I Started This Blog

After following the well-worn path—do well in school, go to uni, land a “respectable” career—I found myself asking, loudly and often:

” IS THIS IT ?!

(Yes, caps = screaming voice in this blog.)

Currently, I’m in a career crisis (for context). But to be clear: I don’t want this blog to just be about me.

I want it to be about ideas. About living more thoughtfully. About exploring what’s possible when we challenge the rules around how we live, work, and design our lives.

Who Am I, Anyway?

I’m Fran: a 30-something architect, product designer, and full-time house-sitter living in Melbourne.

By day, I work in architecture. On the side, I make things (currently ceramics). I also live a little unusually: hopping from home to home, caring for people’s pets and spaces as part of a minimalist, nomadic lifestyle.

It’s non-typical, logistically complex, and deeply rich in experience.

My Nomad / House-Sitting Lifestyle

House-sitting sounds glamorous—until you’re dragging a suitcase across town in the rain and stepping in cat vomit at 7am.

But in between, there’s joy: character-filled homes, spontaneous discoveries, and the slow rewiring of what “home” can mean.

I’ve been fully nomadic since early 2022, and full-time house-sitting since early 2023. What began as a way to save for a home has become a lifestyle shift that changed the way I live, think, and design.

Living with less has given me more: more peace, more creativity, more connection ✨

I’ve learned that “home” isn’t a postcode—it’s a mindset. And you don’t need as much as you think to feel grounded, secure, and free.

A Blog for the Boxless (aka Multi-Potentialites + Curious Humans)

I’m what you’d call a multi-potentialite (or a Manifesting Generator in Human Design terms). Translation: I don’t do boxes. I don’t want to pick one thing and stick to it. I collect creative pursuits like others collect houseplants (minus the guilt when they die).

So no, the world probably doesn’t need another blog.
But I needed a space to unpack my life and interests—creatively, honestly, and hopefully in a way that helps someone else along the way.

Who is this Blog for (A Messy Mission)

This blog isn’t perfectly polished. I don’t have a clear “content strategy” (yet). What I do have is a hunch—a quiet nudge that there’s something worth exploring here on the internet.

If you’ve ever asked yourself:

  • How can I design a life that feels good, not just looks good?
  • Should I become a minimalist / nomad / housesitter?
  • Should I become a designer / maker?

Then maybe this blog is for you.

Think of it as part documentary, part digital notebook, part breadcrumb trail out of burnout and into intentional living.

My Mission (for Now)

To help you simplify your life, enhance your surroundings, and cultivate a sense of peace and purpose—on your own terms.

I believe small, intentional choices can create big shifts. Whether it’s through minimalist living, nomadic design, creative work, or self-reflection—I want to share what I’m learning.

This blog is a starting point. A place to document, explore, and connect.

Welcome to Drift and Dwel.

Fran xx
